Woke mind virus

Whether because of attacks from Trump or its own inherent absurdity, the woke mind virus that has seized universities across the Western world has been under severe assault of late. And my alma mater, Cambridge University, has been at the forefront of the blistering action.
Jason Arday, a 41-year-old sociology professor once lauded as a poster boy for DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion), has resigned amidst a plagiarism/credentialing scandal currently hitting world news headlines.
Arday said the “relentless accusations, speculation and public commentary have taken a profound toll on me and on those I love.”
Cambridge first dismissed allegations that Arday had seriously misrepresented himself, calling them part of a "vile campaign to undermine his credibility.” But, taking heat from all sides, the university has now launched a probe into “new information” about his qualifications and appointments.
Daily Mail writer Guy Adams, meanwhile, accused Cambridge of appearing “to have surrendered basic academic standards to a woke orthodoxy in which minorities are unfairly promoted in the name of diversity, equity and inclusion.”
Adams wrote that, from the day in 2023 when Arday became its youngest-ever black professor, the elite university treated the son of Ghanaian immigrants as a public-relations asset: “Press releases portrayed him as a living, breathing demonstration of their commitment to inclusion, waxing lyrical about a Hollywood-style life story in which he'd conquered severe autism that had allegedly left him unable to speak until almost his 12th birthday, and incapable of reading or writing until adulthood.”
Adams added that the “credulous” BBC then took the bait: “Arday was made guest editor on the Today program, appeared on Question Time, and on multiple occasions featured as a panelist on Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg.”
Next week, publisher Simon and Schuster is scheduled to release a memoir of Arday’s, titled “Great and Unfortunate Things.” It might well make a great read, but how much of it is true is unfortunately open to question.
And that, I think, is the real issue here: Are our universities still interested in the truth … or have they simply become pushers of “progressive” propaganda?
