Watching a cat kill a scared mouse
or a bear munch on a young deer
convinces us that nature’s house
is filled with murder and shrill fear.
And on downtown streets, we savor
the flavor of drugs and despair,
witnessing human behavior
that’s cruel, brutal and unfair.
But the next time we view the sky
midst the magic of rosy dawn,
we get to cast a detailed eye
on why it is that we were born.
We see more method than madness,
more genuine pleasure than pain,
more giddy laughter than sadness,
more sunny days than dreary rain.
We find a heavenly story
that is another lively sign
of the true-blue morning glory
behind intelligent design.
