The retriever plays fetch on the beach
like a hyper kid in a toy store.
It’s a whirlwind of a game in
which Fido always demands more.
Cats like to scratch, horses to roll,
and most canines are wired to chase
objects their owners hurl into
the sea with precision and pace.
Now, having your pet swim for a
rubber ball hardly represents
one of those life-changing pursuits
or so-called watershed events.
But it is one of the rare times
when you replace panic with play,
bond with humanity’s best friend …
and even make your entire day.
